The Pledge

1. "I pledge of allegiance to the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one nation under God invisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1954 congress added the words "under God" to the pledge. They wanted to focus on public school's decisions with the words, as well as they wanted to math our motto which is "In God We Trust."
2. At first they were focused on the separation of the state and church. Then they wanted the schools to make the decision. Then John Ashcroft said that they weren't going to rehear the hearing and that it was up to the schools and it was their opinion to carry on the patriotism of the pledge. It was also unconditional for them them to force people to say or not to say "under God".
3. If they were to take "under God" out of the pledge then it would be against everyone's freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
4. It would be the fist amendment that states that you have the right to you speech and then you have your freedom of religion. The school can not tell you to say "under god" or not to say. If are a Muslim then you don't want to say "under god" when you don't feel like you should say that because it isn't for your religion.
5. c. The pledge is a way to show your pride for your country not a religious factor. it was not created to show grace to God, but to show pride in our country. The other articles read have something about God in them also yet no one complains about that at all. the pledge is as equal as the religion. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotism act it is not a religious one.
