Sedtion Act

1. "Sedition means the incitement of violent revolutin against the government." Requires criminal penalties for people who say something or write something that is false. This is mainly toward the government, president, or the Congress. If you were to write on a poster board saying that our president is against our country by planing an attack on our country, then you would go to jail for sedition because that is false information.
2. Yes it is unconstitutional because sedition means the incitement of violent revolution against the government. People were arrested for things that weren't necessary at all. One guy made a sign saying "Downfall To The Tyrants of America." The other guy said that he wished that a cannon fired and would hit Adams in the seat of his pants. He was arrested and convicted of the Sedition Act.
3. The right of free speech should be limited during war time and if it angers the people or it sends a threatening message. People can protest, but they have to do it in a respectful way. Like they can't throw eggs at someone just because they are a soldier. Or if they think that our country is going down hill then they desided to burn our flag for some reson. I think they should seperate the actions of what people do and what they say. We should have it to wear people can make signs, but they can't destory property or things that would anger other people.
4. The government shouldn't have to right to keekp you from saying what you feel or want to say. People should have to right to say war is bad during peacetime. People should be able to where braclets that are against the war and say what they feel, but if they where to do something shutch as getting into a fight or making other people become angery then thats when to government should do something about that. The government should tell people to do whatever they want, but if they disturb the peace then they will get into trouble.

The Pledge

1. "I pledge of allegiance to the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one nation under God invisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1954 congress added the words "under God" to the pledge. They wanted to focus on public school's decisions with the words, as well as they wanted to math our motto which is "In God We Trust."
2. At first they were focused on the separation of the state and church. Then they wanted the schools to make the decision. Then John Ashcroft said that they weren't going to rehear the hearing and that it was up to the schools and it was their opinion to carry on the patriotism of the pledge. It was also unconditional for them them to force people to say or not to say "under God".
3. If they were to take "under God" out of the pledge then it would be against everyone's freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
4. It would be the fist amendment that states that you have the right to you speech and then you have your freedom of religion. The school can not tell you to say "under god" or not to say. If are a Muslim then you don't want to say "under god" when you don't feel like you should say that because it isn't for your religion.
5. c. The pledge is a way to show your pride for your country not a religious factor. it was not created to show grace to God, but to show pride in our country. The other articles read have something about God in them also yet no one complains about that at all. the pledge is as equal as the religion. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotism act it is not a religious one.
